What I like about making jewels
is the endless possibilities
in shape, colour and stitch.
Most of the time even I don't know
how it will turn out in the end.
I often spend a lot of time deciding what colour combo
will be the best for that particular felted item.
And yes, more than once stitches are unpicked
and made again in another way !

a wet felted hollow brooch with some lace inside

and glass beads and seed beads

dinsdag 5 oktober 2021

day 5

Most of the time I start with my felted base
and just let me guide through the flow
of form and colour.
I'm not always really sure about the path I will follow,
if it will be a brooch or maybe a pendant today . . .
When I decided to make a pendant
it turned out there wasn't the right colour fabric bead in my stash.
And since my sewing machine isn't back from the repair
it meant making the bead all by hand.
(luckily I did have the stitched fabric I make these beads of !)

So after some extra stitching is here

my PINK  RIBBON Textile Jewel
for day 5 :

a wet felted (two sided) pendant on a textile bead
stitched with silk and wax cord, and some glass beads
on an adjustable wax cord

dinsdag 27 oktober 2020

day 27

There was that special colour of wool ...
It fitted exactly to the colour
of my favorite "Cora Kemperman" dress.
(so, is was often : NO, don't use that bit !)
But after my special bag was made
it wasn't so bad anymore :
there is still some left !
And for the Textile Jewels
not very much wool is needed.

My  PINK  RIBBON  Textile Jewel for day 27 :

A wet felted triangle pendant, couched silk on one side,
stitched and some seed beads on the other side
and a flat glass bead at the bottom,
hanging on an adjustable wax cord.

For a donation of at least

€ 15,-

SOLD  !

this cobalt blue pendant
can be yours,
to give a loved one as a present
or to keep for yourself.
Just sending an email at
fiberrainbow@gmail.com
is all you need to do for that.
(Paypal is possible and easy)

ALL the money goes to  PINK  RIBBON !

"YONI"

Tomorrow there will be another Textile Jewel
for  Pink Ribbon
Will I see you again then ?

dinsdag 9 februari 2016

growing ...

Sara's "challenge house" and the inhabitants
are "growing"

Today I made the triangular shaped walls
a little more precise
with little fluffs of green wool,
linen and tulle.
I had to be really careful
not to break any felting needle of my embellisher machine
because there are already some beads
and stitching on the walls !
(ahhhhh ..... couldn't help myself,
just had to do it !)

The top ("roof") end of each wall
needs some adjustment too.
There will be some leaf-shaped ends.

Then I will have to put it all together
and, most probably, stabilize it with wire frame
(still thinking about that)

But I was also playing on my normal sewing machine
with tiny bits and pieces of fabric
and some "water soluble"
That was a long time ago I used that
but very, very much FUN !

Anyone can guess ?

mistakes to learn from

Sure !
You should learn from your mistakes
I hope that I will do just that !

Some time ago someone asked me
why I said that you should put a bit of vinegar
in the last rinsing water of your felted piece :
I said (like I learned from someone else)
that it was to neutralize
the (eventually) still remaining bits of soap in your felt, because :
soap eats your fibres in the end !

Well ...
you should think I'm aware of this
"soap eating your felt" thing
.....

Some days ago I planned I would finally finish
some felt piece I started
on my felting-day with my dear friend Jane
in April, last year !

Why did I take so long to finish it?
I don't know, sometines things go like that :
you don't have time,
(because there are other things that need to be done)
you're not in the right mood, or
you simply forget all about it
;-)

That's about what happened :
and the piece lay there, started, wet and soaped,
rolled in bubble wrap and a towel.
There were leaves and little half felted balls
with some "fibre fluff" to attach them to the main part,
there were glass beads inside, and a lot of "nuno"

First I put some extra layers on the back and over the glass beads
The layers were simply too thin, not strong enough.

But, when I wanted to add the leaves and especially the balls :
the wool fibres just broke down !!!

I had to remove some of them, but (pfffft) most leaves remained attached

In the end, when the piece was dry I removed the glass beads

because the top was still not strong enough to keep them safely in
(though I made tiny holes !)

Here is the finished collar
(thoroughly rinsed in vinegar and competely dry now)

some details

(around my neck, for the size)

A lesson well learned :
never ever
leave a (half) felted piece in soap too long
