friday faces

Just two small faces to show :

the Emma Cassi workshop of Stitch Club
was masks / faces in beads.

They "should" be bigger,
but I liked the brooch size more.

Little specks of rain
leaves that are turning yellow,
yes, autumn is really here !

A friend just picked up a bird jewel
and the other bird is in the mail to Germany
(these tiny woolen ones are too precious to really fly)

day 23

This is my first triangle ...

I had cut it more than a week ago.

It was just waiting for the right moment, I think.

No premeditation at all

but suddenly

while couching the thick hand dyed silk thread,

a little angel emerged,

just like that.

Here is the  Pink Ribbon  textile jewel for day  23

Triangle "angel" pendant of sea green felt

with a turquoise silk back,

embroidered with hand dyed silk

and little specks of silver,

seed beads and a tiny mother-of-pearl button

(7.5 x 6 cm)

on a 75 cm long wax cord.

"Katia's" shawl

The shawl I made in Katia's workshop

was nearly finished when I took it home.

I knew I wanted to do some stitching with the machine

(like Katia herself does)

and also some stitching by hand.

But when trying it on when it was totally dry

made me realize I didn't like the way it lay around my neck.

I like it because it's beautiful

but I also want it to be comfortable and warm !

I had my doubts about making it wet again

and trying to shrink it some more

in the right place

.....

I decided against that 

but made some very narrow pleats instead !

That just did the trick  ;-)

The pleats (that you can see at the back of the collar)

take enough of the extra space away

so now it fits much better.

I'm very happy with the way the silk

(habotai and chiffon)

that Fiona handdyed for me some time ago merges into the wool.

The habotai took a bit more effort 

(uhhhhm ..... a sander) 

but it looks very nice !

The "button" was in fact a mother of pearl disc

with only one big hole .....

so I put a little felted ball on top.

(for the inside of the machine stitching

I used the same rayon thread 

but only in a dark turquoise colour so you hardly notice it)

good craft

The jacket 

daughter started on some weeks ago

is finally finished.

(it's not easy for a mother of three

to find enough time for such a big felting task)

We are very satisfied with the end result.

We both made a jacket before,

but that was in a workshop with Anneke Copier,

some years ago and never came to making another one ourselves

(untill now !)

Making a good closure isn't one of the easiast parts

because you don't want the button holes and buttons

to tear the felt apart

(though felt is really tough material !)

That's why she stitched a narrow leather strip

on both insides to give the closure more firmness.

In the end I made the (simple) buttonholes

and stitched the buttons on.

These real horn buttons were once my mom's :

she bought them on a holiday in Austria

where she was always on the look-out for special things. 

A true FIRE woman jacket !

Under my sewing machine 

the "jeweled squares" are growing more and more.

Our smallest grandson loves to stack them

size by size

when they are laid down on the floor.

(he thinks I shouldn't lay them on the floor at all !)

And when the "little one" isn't using his chair ...

there's another "little one" who is using it instead

especially when the sun is shining
