raffle . . . and parties !

Oh my, it took a while
for my leap day raffle to be completed
but now I have a winner !

Preparations for a big surprise party,
making a textile (3D) robin for another surprise and
putting together a mobile with lots of fun items
especially made by family and friends
for a 50 - birthday "girl"
our dear daughter !
(that's what robs you of a lot of time and energy
but it was totally worth it !!!)

Not really going back to "normal" yet :
last weekend another party
the coming weekend Easter at granddaughter's
and in a fortnight my own birthday party !!!

Hmmm, enough partying for some time after thát
and back to stitching and felting !!!

Last week on Friday

lots of work has been done in the garden :

a new fence !

Raindrops, just when the last screws

went into place !

Wednesday and today

I worked in the garden too :

preparations for tomorrow

when the gardeners

will raise the terrace

About halfway collecting stuff

(that came from all over the place)

that needs to be dumped.

I was busy removing and saving bits along the edge

that come under pressure when the terrace is raised,

but also enjoying some early beauties !!!

(remember Hetty ?) 

These lovely Helleborus were hidden in a Tallictrum

I got when my dear garden friend Rhonda's sister

moved (back) to Australia

Curious if all goes well tomorrow ...

My wonderful "Karisma" colour pencil box

has been waiting patiently in the cupboard for a long time :

I was busy with other things.

But this leap day

gave me the opportunity

to make a small special (mandala) drawing.

(the paper is +/- 20 x 25 cm)

I have drawn a winner for the "leap day mandala"

For a long time

there was a knitting project that I wanted to make

the Petal Cowl by Xandy Peters

(on Ravelry .... of course)

But after I studied the pattern a bit

I knew it would be

a difficult task !

There are videos to explain

the ingenious "stacked in and decreases"

But that's doable with a few stitches ...

but with 300 on your needle

.....

But after talking about it with someone

in the Alpaca-on-tour group this Saturday

I really started with a tiny try-out

with only 60 stitches

(the wool is Katia "Darling" and was a gift

from my dear friend "Stins" )

And because it was fun ...

(AFTER  I did a LOT of things WRONG !)

I had finally enough courage

to start with a real petal cowl !

(though mine will be a lot smaller than the original pattern !)

NORO Kureyon Sock from my stash !

When I'm really fed up

with aaaaaaaall this "stacking"

then I still have my wonderful

sock-yarn-leftovers scarf !

Finally I received another envelope of my felting exchange !

A card, a beautiful homemade envelope

and a fun little lizard brooch !

What a special day !!!

I know a date isn't something "fixed"

It's just an agreement that we count the days like that,

and keep a bit of extra time every year,

so we once in a while cast in an extra day !

And that also isn't the samefor all the people in the world

(just take all the Chinese or Jewish people for instance

and there are many more others)

Ohhhhh

and what about :

if it's your birthday today ???

Once every four years !

(but then : you don't age that quickly  ;-) ...)

Like four years ago,

I thought something special was appropriate.

So I made a special

LEAP  DAY  MANDALA
