day 14

Yeaaaah . . . a birthday today
(with MANY candles on his cake
and a special birthday-dinner with daughter and the kids)

But what a gray day it was outside :
(the sun is out just now but too late for sunny pictures)
Perhaps that's why I "struggled"
with the bright sequins inside this little felt
. . .
only after I found the right bit of fabric
to tone it down, the flow started going.

day 3

Stitching on water soluble is such fun !
Almost like magic
when the stitch bearer is dissolved
and you have the flower in your hand !

Some bright red snippets
are enough to make
a delicate flower.

Here is the Pink Ribbon textile jewel
for day  3

Flower brooch made of felt, cotton, viscose,
rayon thread and seed beads
(5,5 cm (2 ") in diameter)

What a bright spot this would make on your lapel !

For a donation of

€  10

SOLD  !

(or more is allowed)

I send it to you.
You can wear it yourself, or give it as a present
to a loved one.

All the money will go to the Pink Ribbon Fund !

"POPPY"

Tomorrow another Textile Jewel awaits you
See you then !

stitch and ..... ?

Sometimes all the other plans are going on hold
when something else jumps to my mind :
I thought ...
I needed to make something special
for a special friend.

Though I had serious felting plans for today,
this project came up
and got priority.

A tiny sketch is most of the time enough for me

After that I made a new stash
of "wonder-undered" polyester velvet.

(first time round I didn't heat up the iron enough
or didn't stay on the stuff long enough to make
the wonder-under (vliesofix) stick ...
btw : always use baking paper to avoid
nasty things happening to your iron !)

After all the preparatory steps

the stitching is the really fun part !

This is the back side

The stitching is done
and you know what ?

I really don't know yet if I will burn this one too
.......

(and no overall view,
this will be in the mail soon
and when it arrived safely
you'll see)

And now I'm off to my mandala evening

;-)

my lovely machine

What a lovely day it was yesterday !
No, no sun to be seen
(well ... maybe a minute or two ...)
but we were inside
being creative
"We" was me and my dear friend Wil
she explained to me a certain known technique,
she refined for her own art-quilts

(Wil's work on the "Art Quilts in Nederland" exhibition last May)

It has been quite some time since I used my machine.
( I did a lot of hand stitching lately, inspired by Jude )

First here was a lot of preparation
in several steps
painting (with diluted acrylic paint)
ironing "vliesofix" (wonder under)
cutting
...

but in the end I could start on my dear PFAFF

There's still a lot to be done before this try-out will be finished
because I need to do some burning too
Ha, it's so good the weather will be fine tomorrow :
I will be burning outside
(the fumes are not very healthy !!!)

I will probably use parts of this technique in my own work.

Might find some inspiration in the garden ???

Wow ... these colours !

a wet garden ... and stitches

These last few days were cold
and often wet too
but the garden shows it's spring beauty anyway !

(Brunnera "Jack Frost")

(yellow dead nettle)
*

I finished another secret project
and then made some  tiny stitches  too

These were done on the machine,
there will be a lot more stitching by hand
.......

And daughter herself
made the cutest monkey you can imagine
out of fingering yarn, so he's very small

He is called
"Jacobus"
and knitted from the top of his head
down to his hands and feet
and the tip of his tail
all in one go !
(he sits on the only seam there is !)

Annita is, among other things, a talented knitter.
Taking a look at het site is very worth while !
The pattern was in Dutch,
but it might be in English too (?)

a present and something finished

What I like about the blogger-community is :
the friends that get "real" all of a sudden
I got this e-mail some time ago
to tell me that I could pick something I liked
and that it then would come my way !

Lee send me two of her lovely fabric circles
(she makes one every day !)

Thanks Lee !
*
After we went to the alpaca farm yesterday
(with three generations !)
things continued at home :

granddaughter

daughter

and me ...
grrrrrrrr
I had to undo some machine stitching on the fabric basket
(yes ..... thát happens when you don't pay attention)

There was no serious damage done,
so after "a while" I could go on where I left off

The "Hobbs" batting would not stick to the lining fabric
so I had to secure it by hand,
then the inner and outer layer were pinned/stitched together,

turned and ..... finished
(one down, one to go)

A productive easter weekend

vrijdag 6 april 2012

working, working

All the things I need to have finished soon
are more or less in progress.
But every now and then new things are coming in-between ...
so I need to be working steady on !

a secret crown ...

some repair needed (and done) ...

a fabric basket in the making ...
.....

pffffffffffffffft
sometimes I just need a time-out !

For that you can find me in the garden !

I lóóóóve spring !
(though it will be a rather cold easter weekend
and the full moon is hidden behind the clouds)

maandag 2 april 2012

for another baby

Although the machine stitching was awful on the velvet tricot,
I persevered
and made another bunny,
for another baby.
In fact it's for the new born niece of the first baby
(though she isn't exactly a baby any more
because it took me soooo long to make the present)
Tomorrow both bunnies will be on their way in the mail.

Hmmmm : a bit of a puzzle ..... inside out ..... halfway there .....

So it's a flat bunny, with a head (a tiny rattle inside) ,
some space for your finger to wiggle the head,
a little bunny tail,
and some funny loops to hold onto.

(but, as I see it now : it's quite possible it is the Easter Bunny ....)
