September

The first of September today,
and after a few days of sunshine and rain
you can smell it in the garden :
autumn is near !

Oh sure,
there still are some raspberries on the bush
the rose has some flowers again
the phlox start blooming for the second
(or third) time
but something is changing
and I can smell it before I really see it.

But for my last Art Market I'm working
on some new items to take with me.
One is a new bird piece
bigger than the usual 20 x 20 cm.
The dark blue background was made already a long time ago,
now I have the right bird to go with it
a barn owl.

This was a week ago
but I was busy stitching and forgot to take
new photos of the progress yet.
The tiniest bits are attached now but lots more stitching is needed.

Besides all this there is the plan for some more felting too
. . . . .

the Art Market in
Amerongen

Today I finished the third of my brand new hanging dolls.
You've seen the Flower Spirit (Flora)
the Tree Spirit
and now the Sea Spirit
is also finished.

Hmmm I broke three needles of my embellisher machine
on the lovely velvet tricot with little sequins on it
. . . . .
(now I have to find out where I can order new needles !)

Making holes in shells isn't an easy task either
(even with my nice Dremel tool !)

It shows "you can't win them all"

Even the backside is now nicely finished
with my "Fiberrainbow" label stitched on.

I also found a nice box
so the dolls can be transported safely
in three weeks time to Amerongen

next Sunday August 30 in
11.00 - 16.00

I've been working on two more hanging dolls,
number two is nearly finished
though I need to drill some tiny holes
and my Dremel is missing a special part
(so to the hardware store tomorrow first)

Many years ago I made a hanging doll
in an online course with Sara Lechner . . .
I always wanted to follow up on that idea
but never did
(until now)

I started with an 8cm wide strip of cotton
and drew some faces
(just like I did for Jude's course years ago)

Some very fine cotton (like organdie) on top of the drawing
(easy to see through !)

I can't stop at just one of course
(ideas, ideas)

My wonderful embellisher
(a kind of sewing machine without thread but with felting needles)

was happy to see the daylight again !!!

So far . . .

And just for fun of it : painting some silk and scrim
to use for this and future projects.

The first is some printed greenish silk,
the second one margilan to sweep up the leftover paint on the glass

 

Tabula rasa

In fact :
NO
my "Tabula rasa" isn't  empty anymore.

I started with this "clean sheet" in January
and made a vow to keep stitching on it till the end of the year.
Because I started with white snippets
on the strip of (old) white sheet
the name was still appropriate.
Since then
COLOURS
have joined in.

The last two weeks I've been catching up
because I had neglected this work a bit.
(too busy with other things)

This dark red and pink is for this month.
In August the colour will change again a bit into red
(and to end another white strip for the background !)

a textile day !

Yesterday daughter and I visited the
"Textiel Festival"
in Amersfoort.



It was the last day of four days stuffed to the brim :
with the presence of all the major textile associations,
workshops, lectures, the results of a competition,
exhibitions through the (lovely old) city,
an Arts & Crafts market and
about 800 "hoops" ("Rondje Textiel")
filled with any textile technique
you can think of !!!

It was a sunny and (too) warm day
so we picked the things we liked most to visit.
I'm sorry to say we just missed "The Red Dress"
because we had to wait too long for a time-slot
but we're happy to have seen the "Colorminds"
and the three "LAK" ladies.
(and of course we came home with some goodies !)

It was a wonderful day !!!
A big THANK  YOU  to the organisation
and all the volunteers who made this possible !

ART MARKET Amerongen

Only a few more days from now

GRIET  MARKT

again !

If you are anywhere near,
please come to Amerongen to this wonderful market
with lots of organic products, design and art
to choose from.
And . . . there will be music too !

In addition to my gouache paintings I am also bringing
textile panels with birds, with flowers and with abstract stitching,
and lots of felt objects.

 

Textile jewelry : like the new necklace here,

small felted bags, fish, finger puppets and insects.

It would be lovely to see you there !!!

The long "Tabula Rasa" strip
that I started in Januari
is lying around most of the time
but near by
in case I want to add some snippets
or make a few stitches.

Because with the start of spring near
and the garden changing each day a bit more to green
I decided to move that colour
for this month.

There are clumps of yellow
of the small "tête-à-tête" daffodils
but the rambler rose is already showing many green leaves !

I leave this for a bit :

March already
and the weather is really spring-like.
Snowdrops, aconites and crocuses are gone
but bunches of small daffodils
and wood anemones are taking over.

The lava-piece is growing slowly.

The center section will be the flowing lava
so there will be lots more dark stitching
on the top and bottom
(20 x 50 cm)

Of course there are some lovely
Kaffe Fasset bits in this piece !

There will be another RED piece in the making in a hoop
that has to be finished by the end of the month !

I love that colour
(I even have 4 pairs of red shoes !)
But this time I made a base for stitching in red.
(50 x 20cm)

There are all kinds of snippets in it
that have special memories for me, I like that.

Of course the next step is always
basting everything invisibly down, the way Jude Hill taught us.
So every bit is really secure before any real stitching starts.

I don't have a clear idea of where this is all going
but I saw a marvelous video somewhere
of lava streaming from a volcano.

(and work on something else)
