day 25

Today I had a piece of sea blue felt
that I cut out for a luck box.
It made me think of the sea
and that reminded me of the song of Sweet Molly Malone
(and yes, that stuck to my mind all day long)

Working most of the time with only one strand of cotton
making the tiniest French knots :
shells, sea stars, seaweed . . . a true miniature bit of tide line.
(Pictures are taken with lamplight : late on a rainy day !)

My  PINK  RIBBON  Textile Jewel
for day 25 :

a little felt box, stitched with silk, cotton, some bits of mesh,
a few sequins and seed beads, it closes with a homemade cord
which has a charm of mother-of-pearl.

September ...

September is already on it's way.
There was some sun,
there was a splash of rain ...

Nooo ... not as big a splash as this ...
this splash was made for the
(still on-going .... no we can't stop)

on-line felting class of Corinna Nitschman

But
the month started with a long-desired wish :
solar panels
Our roof faces south-west, so why not !

Happy now !
*

The postman brought a long-expected package from Germany !
Some months ago I got a proposal for a swap
from a German blogging-friend, Heidi
a special pendant for her and a handmade stoneware bowl for me.!
I send her the pendant and patiently waited.
She needed some time to make the bowl ...
bring it to the kiln ...
then it was holiday-time ...
so she send it the end of August.

Ahhhhh, had a fright when it arrived : a big hole in the package ...
but luckily Heidi had packed it safely in two cartons !!!
phew !

Isn't that a beauty ?

Love the design she made of the flowers I could choose :
Fritillaria and Snowdrops !

And with it came a piece of her solar-dyed fabric !
SO happy with it all !

THANKS  HEIDI  !!!

And on went the making of felted shells
(I must confess : it starts to look like an addiction ...)

Two new spiral ones and an "old" one,
and two more "normal" shells, but forgot to take a picture.

And, to unlearn, another pair of wrist warmers.

and some more ...

When you start and the going is GOOD
.....
why stop ?

So here are more felted shells.

(I'm not the only one :
lots of other participants of
Corinna Nitschmann 's on-line course
did exactly the same and felted several shells !)

For this one I used black (Bergschaf ?? but not very good)
mixed with glittering "Angelina" fibers
and little bits if green and yellow
(that my dear friend Birgit dyed and gave me)

The black fibers were very short,
made lousy felt and kept coming off in the process.
GRRRRRRR

(we have some more ... but it will be difficult where to use it !)

Some stitches, with linen thread, to secure the folded top.

It shrunk very good    ....    and the next spiral one.

(I secured the top of the spiral ones with invisible thread)

And this wonderful shell was done by Nature

and a talented person !!!

(NO, not me ... daughter brought it home for me
from some Festival !)

Ahhhh, and I totally forgot
to show the wonderful little bum bag daughter made
out of an old leather shirt !

(also a talented person !)

;-)

Last but not least : some visitors in the garden

Small, but beautiful !

complicated ...

Veins in an oak leaf

nature did a good job creating this intricate "road map"
for every single leaf in the little oak tree
that's still, for now, in our garden.
(a jay planted it ...)

It had fallen off and had been in puddle of water
dissolving the chlorophyll, leaving only the veins.

Why do droplets stay on these leaves ?
(I think it's because of the way the surface of these leaves is made
with many many tiny hairs)

So many different forms in flowers

looking simple, but in fact complicated

Nature is a great artist !

The last felted objects I made,
the wrist warmers, were not very complicated
A simple straight form, with just a hole for the thumb.
Just fun to make ...

... and fun to stitch on.

But

when I saw something really complicated
on the blog that was made for the on-line felting course
I HAD to try it !

NOT easy ...
but worth the effort !!!

and NATURE did it first !!!
(and what a lovely house to live in ...)
