a birthday !

(hmmm, doesn't matter, I love him)

It was, apart from phone calls, a very quiet birthday
because we will be celebrating this Sunday !
So enough time for stitching.

day 25

I must confess
that I'm a bit of a magpie,
but that might be no surprise for the most of you.
I like glitter and shiny things.
But I know, some people
have a more austere taste in jewelry,
more simple, straight. clean
no fuss.
So this jewel is sober but elegant !

blue moon . . .

When I was laying together all the green scraps

for another stitching piece

there suddenly was a blue moon on one of them ...

Well, clearly that was it :

"Blue Moon"

it should be.

(ahhhh ... and that old Blue Moon song from long ago, by Ella or by Billy )

Some more details of the stitching.

Just very simple stitches :

running stitch (kantha or sometimes flat stitch)

and buttonhole stitch

in silk  and cotton or rayon embroidery floss.

Stitching I did outside in the garden,

but when it was too HOT ... I fled inside !

It will end up on a canvas

with the thin dark blue fabric folded under.

(you can see the stones through the dark blue edge now : that thin !)

It was good sitting in the garden,

stitching.

day 9

Felting and stitching 

was what I was doing today.

The fun part was finding new ways to make a jewel.

At night ideas are swirling in my head

and it's no fun to notice

that some of these ideas are gone again

when it's morning

:-(

But playing with bits and pieces

brings back "old " ideas and creates new ones as well.

Since I'm back from the holidays

the Sun and moons piece

is my steady companion.

I started adding a little piece of Birgit´s lace

but then ...

stitches, stitches and even more stitches.

I even took the piece to the St´nB in Rotterdam last Saturday !

And now, on this last day of August,

again  more stitches.

In places where I´ve been already before with blues

I go back in with other colours,

like the Salmon Moon.

I pick a colour from my big "thread nest"

and just look for a place that needs some more stitches.

I did some stitches on the legs of the Butterfly Moon

and she looks a lot better since I fixed the left side of her blue wings 

with fine lines of split backstitch

so it´s more of a unity with the other `megamendung` parts.

Large pieces, that were still only the loose, swirly blue fabric,

are now firmly quilted to the back

(although you hardly see anything of it !)

The dark (striped) circle behind the sun

will be more clear when I finish the red stitches around it.

A lot more (unseen) stitches needed
.....
slowly going !

Jewels

Pfffffft my cold is nearly over !

So after doing a lot of stitching together yesterday,

I only had to finish one big part today.

I couldn't resist

holding up one finished part to the light yesterday afternoon :

it truly looks like a stained-glass window

Mmmmmm just like the photo in Kaffe's book

(he only used a lot of reds instead of blues)

Here is that same part in the garden.

Mmmmm ...

all this lovely cloth on the floor is very tempting :

three big parts finished yesterday evening late.

And this morning

still more attention for the colourful bits on the floor.

This last photo I didn't want to post yestarday

because then some of you would have thought

it was just something for April fool day,

but it isn't !

This lovely trio is for real

and they are together for years and years now !!!

There is one woman and two males :

the goose being one of the male

When there are swan chicks

the goose has to stand back a bit

(but only a bit !)
