small market

This Sunday afternoon (14.00 - 17.00)

daughter and I will be going

to a small market in the big barn

of a lovely old farmhouse :

in Oud-Beijerland

("under the rainbow")

We hope that the weather will not be as cold as predicted,

but there will be a joyful fire burning outside

with warm drinks.

We have been busy making

"starry" lights in white and gray felt

(with safe LED candles of course)

There are simple stars

with printed tea bags felted inside

and stitched along the edge

And then there is the choir

of little angels

that has grown since last week !

(three more little ladies are waiting for hair and wings)

Today gave as already a foretaste

of what might be coming this weekend :

But we hope on a bit of sunshine too,

just like today !

Ohhhhh ... November was so slow ...

As could be predicted

after the busy "Pink Ribbon-month" October.

Yes, there was felting,

even a LOT of felting

but it went on very quietly :

after the mushrooms and the gnomes

there were stars

 BIG stars, when you compare them to the gnomes, ha !

These two were the first ...

but there are many more now

(because there is a market in a week's time)

For safety reasons they will be equipped with LED lights.

Now, there is slowly growing an angel's choir. 

There will be more !

A lot of different voices

make great harmony

10 - 10 - 15 : day 10 and ... a giveaway

Ten - ten

I love these double numbers,

they're like twins,

and I think twins are special

I mentioned these "doubles" in a post each time this year

(except for 8 - 8 , because then we were on holiday ... 

without a computer)

Because this is a special "double" day

I not only have the felted jewel for day number 10,

embellisher's "eye"

Last Saturday 

daughter and I went to the Alpaca farm.

There they have a knitting group

that meets every first Saturday of the month

but, this day was additional.

Though the weather turned rather cold

inside it was warm and cosy :

with nine ladies,

coffee, tea and cookies

a LOT of talking and laughter

and some knitting.

We had a lovely morning.

One of the ladies (Linda) made these fun crochet animals,

lóve that mole with his pin prick eyes !

(no ladies in sight here, because I didn't ask their permission, so ... )

Because I still had some felt cuts 

I started with the embellisher again.

... an angel under the machine ...

and an angel in my hand

The little piece made me think of the "God's eye" image

(a lovely picture that I found on the web)

let's fly away

I know,

it's still a long time ...

but my first angel is ready to fly away.

In the last photo 

you can see very well what the embellisher does :

the fibres of the yellow triangles migrate 

through the blue wool ánd the dotted fabric to the back

"Catching stars"

Some Noro yarn was needle felted with the embellisher,

some stitches and French knots with self striping sock yarn,
a bit of magic thread

and twelve very old mother-of-pearl buttons

complete the work.

( 20 cm x 20 cm )

Later on I will sew it on a painted canvas.

In the garden I found something odd / special :

at least four years ago I bought ánd planted some saffron crocuses

....

To my regret I never saw any of them !

untill today !!!

Here was  one  saffron crocus

and another, withered one, I apparently missed !

When I picked that one up :

it stained my fingers bright orange !!!

(hmmmmmm ... probably not enough to eco-dye ???)

The technique on my new embellisher

isn't going very smooth yet

but I like it 

(though it's still a lot of trial and error)

tiny clippings of  felt will be incorporated

in the needle felted piece

Sara Lechner suggested synthetic felt and burn it with a soldering iron,

but I have only 100% woolen felt

(that's what I like best)

and I used a very old "buttonhole scissors"

that was once my mother's.

(Ohhhh .... I admire Rob Ryan's paper cutouts even móre now) 

Here it is : 

with the screw you can even adjust the length of the cut.

I started with the rusty squirrel 

and let the two angels wait a bit 

(there is still time for them)

(with magic thread in place)

12 - 12 - 12

a little choir

... and we hear the angels singing ...

...

(noooo, of course not,

but why not pretend that we can hear them sing ?)

Some more of these little ladies will follow

and more mushrooms

though no edible ones,

yet

(and yes, a bag,

and some more stitching )

on wings ...

Christmas over, so now I can show

what I was up to last week

The idea was born out of the fact

that some of my dearly loved ones could use 

some heavenly support.

But making the first one brought me back to reality quickly :

it takes quite some time to make an angel !!!

As a start I cut up some embroidered linen shirt

( I'm so lucky to have these little tweezers

to turn those tiny arms and legs ... )

( that was the pair of socks ... )

......

And a day or two later

the second one was finished

two little guardian angels

......

Well ofcourse there had to come a third one.

All of them easily found their new homes

......

and they will be taking care of things

for a looooooooong time !

For now, all I have to do is enjoy the last few days

of this year
