last August day

Sometimes I wonder :

where do the days go ?

This last August day was the fifth Saturday
of the month :
I   love   Saturdays.

This Saturday I used
to go to a fun small plant market
(organized by "Groei & Bloei", a garden-lovers society)
with also some nice art and vintage.
I went with my dear garden-friend Rhonda
who was just back from a family visit
for a month Down Under !
Both our gardens are full ...
but we bought some plants nevertheless.

It is also the last Saturday (weekend)
of the school summer holidays :
school for the grandchildren will start again on Monday.
Free fun time over !
(though not for us)

Last week the house painter finally began with some work :
the railing of the balcony needed some serious  paint and repair

(from far away it still looks all right ...)
which meant however
I had to cut back the Buddleja and the Wisteria

A few flowers were all that was left
(they had to go for the raising of the slabs too, so ...)

A lovely view on the greens with no railing left

I started on some new felting project
though I can't tell much about it yet

Preparations before I can really start

A LOT of thinking and planning needed ...

number 4

After the "VERWEVEN" Textile Market
in Zierikzee was canceled
a new date was set for September 7
but it turned out
half of the stand holders
couldn't switch to that new date
so next year August 15 will be the new date.

A pity, but the original day was really very wet
and that's just the problem for an outside market :
at least you have to have good (dry) weather.

After some time-out
(reading books)
I finished the belt for the last little pouch !

Four little leaves were repeated for the belt

The first layers with the inside pocket.
This first layer is shining through
the purple on the outside in the end.

A dark purple on the back and the strip of plastic
to make the slit for the belt

Shrinkage almost done(lighter purple up front and a leaf
on the inside of the flap too.

Drying outside

The hand dyed wool for the flap (daughter)
was so nice that I made a pair of wrist warmers
to go with the bag

In the garden the roses have started to bloom again
(the New Dawn looked very "black spotted" bad
but has new leaves and flowers too)

My very last allium of the year Allium tuberosum (garlic chives)
loooves to be in a place with no competitors ...
so between the slabs is a great place !

BUT
this autumn the slabs must be raised
....
So before that I must collect all my special-place-lovers in pots.

Last Friday the man in the funny boat
that "cleans" the waterway along the garden
from too many vegetation got "stuck" :
the wind (or someone) threw something
that looked like an old umbrella into the water.

It took him quite some time to clear the propeller !!!

canceled !

Tonight we just got the message of the organisation that the

"VERWEVEN" MARKET

is  CANCELED
due to the bad weather they expect for this Saturday.
Friday is okay, Sunday is okay
and sadly Saturday will be very WET !
Nothing to be done
because they don't have an inside location available.
They might set a new date
but that isn't sure yet either.

Well ...
just keeping on felting

This was number one

Number two
(with a real stone embedded in the flap)

Number three
(with lovely Wensleydale curls)

All are fanny packs
but the straps are long enough to wear over one shoulder too.

(Number four is on the table)

Daughter has a new family member
.....

He is 12 weeks old
squints a bit with his blue eyes
and is sooooooooooooo  s o f t

fanny pack

In ten days time we will have another market :
Saturday August 17
10.00  -  17.00

(in Zierikzee)

This is a special textile market
so I will leave my paintings home
and will take only "textile stuff" with me.

Some time ago
I made these small bags :
bum bag
or
fanny pack
(ha, didn't know that name but I like it)

I started making them
when we visited a medieval feast
and loved those tiny pouches, worn on a belt
for special small things.
here
(nothing like the handbags or shopping bags
we have nowadays)

Time to make some new ones like that.

The first pic has funny colours because is was taking at night,
next one (by daylight) the second colour is added
and the slot for the belt is made.

Decorations on the flap

finished front and inside the flap

Back of the fanny pack

My  QUEEN OF THE NIGHT (Epiphyllum oxypetalum)
has been very generous lately

Though there were even more flowers buds,
in the end as much as 8 flowers bloomed
(not all at once of course !)

In the early evening three more started to open up
(the two at the bottom and one high up
are already from days before)

The next morning all were gone .....

(always hoping for seeds to develop
but never had any luck there)
