day 31 . . . the end

Today is the end of this month,
the end of my PINK  RIBBON Challenge
of making a Textile Jewel every day for sale,
to collect money
that can be used for more research
into better treatment methods and aftercare
for breast cancer patients.

Too many women (and also men!)
get the diagnosis that turns their lives
(and that of their family and friends)
upside down>
So help is needed.

I hope we did help :
me, by taking the time and creativity
to make a Textile Jewel every day,
and you, my dear customers,
by buying them so eagerly !

day 30

 During this whole month
the workshops of the Stitch Club
continued as usual twice a month
(though not for me of course
because there was little time left for that)

But I liked the work of Vinny Stapley
and her "Wild layers" appealed to me
(I love plants and flowers) 
I didn't choose (green) plants, but flowers : poppies.
I have taken bits of time
to continue the first design I did on the background
of transparent layers of thin cloth and lace.
(pinning it all was okay, but then came the stitching . . . !)

What a coincidence that I finally managed to complete
Vinnie's piece and make a poppy on water soluble
for today's Jewel !

with a water-soluble machine stitched poppy.

stitched with cotton floss and some seed beads,

a few wooden beads and a tiny bell

to remember the poppies in "Flanders Fields"

Sometimes things work out as you think they will
and sometimes they don't.
I had two shapes for a pendant
(which should co together)
but it just wasn't right.
So a slight change of plans
which results that I'm happy how it turned out now !

(taking pictures in bad daylight can be a problem
but certain colours are ALWAYS a problem for my camera :
dark blues and purple,
NEVER how they are in real life)

I was busy felting

There was that special colour of wool ...
It fitted exactly to the colour
of my favorite "Cora Kemperman" dress.
(so, is was often : NO, don't use that bit !)
But after my special bag was made
it wasn't so bad anymore :
there is still some left !

not very much wool is needed.

When you look back
it is almost impossible to really tell
how many years have gone by

(so that one was drying yesterday too,

and it wasn't hard to choose the colours for it !)

Our neighbours have a "garden"
that is more STONE than anything else.

The Hedera that grows on the fence at both sides

has been to the "hairdresser" a few days ago :

and flowers, with much needed food for insects right now,

were cut off
(and fell to our side)

So sad !

But they look lovely in my little vase !

  Is everybody sleeping the last few days ???  
  (or no one needs a present for a loved one  
  with the upcoming holidays ?)  

  

The clock went back an hour today
ohhhhhh
just when do they STOP with the silly
summer-and-winter-time-change-thing !?!
Let's go back to how it used to be.
All the so-called benefits they say the changing has
are (to my knowledge)
non-existent !

The stitching and all took just a bit longer today,
because the felted piece wasn't dry yet
and I had to make a cord for the pendant
because I had no matching colour.

It is amazing how fast
the colour of the tree leaves is changing :
autumn has come quite suddenly in that regard.
And though I really love this season
it makes me thinking
(and longing a bit) of spring.

Spring is
promises of new flowers and sweet fragrances.
In the garden I don't have room for it
but lilacs were always something I wanted
(though I must say it isn't much of a pretty shrub
after the flowers are gone !)

So lilac it is today !

Today I've been busy felting again
Choosing colors and deciding what shape to make.
Another black one?
White?
No : gray !
(and two others lying on the heating to fully dry)

There used to be a tin foundry in an special old building in Delfshaven,
part of Rotterdam (and from where the Pilgrim Fathers left for the New World)
It was fun to see the tin melting and some cup or plate emerge from the form.
But I love the colour of old pewter.
